Burger consumption jumps over the summer months, and with a name like ‘Summer Smash’ it was sure to be a hit on our Red Deer menu in July.

Matt and Andy Cassidy of Beyond Insurance Inc. served as our guest chefs, co-creating ‘Summer Smash’ which included dill lime aioli, beef smash patty, pulled pork with black cherry BBQ sauce, a grilled pineapple ring, shredded iceberg with jalapeño arugula aioli on a brioche bun, according to a release.

Two dollars from every burger sold is going directly to the Cassidy’s charity of choice - Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC).

Matt and Andy have had the opportunity to get to know the Executive Director of CASASC Patricia Arango over the past few years and believe in the Centre’s commitment to education and open communication around respect and consent and opening communication around sexual violence.

The Cassidy’s are raising a young family and Andy says while they have not been personally affected by sexual assault or sexual violence, “We have come to really understand the value and importance of consent education and talking to children about their body and rights.”

“The work that CASASC does around counselling and support for sexual assault victims (adults and children) is so valuable, we are proud of the work they do in those areas as well as prevention and education.”

The Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre serves of all Central Alberta, providing a range of support services for individuals who are affected by sexual violence, including counselling, play therapy, police and court support, crisis support and education.

CASASC also offers a 24-hour help line – the 24-Hour Sexual Violence Text, Webchat and Phone Help Line, responding to an average of 180 calls a month.

They have a team of 145 volunteers helping on the line.

Since the help line is volunteer-driven, donations go a long way to providing support to those who need it most in our community. Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program, Matt and Andy helped us hand over $1,835 to the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre on Aug. 5th).

Matt and Andy also stepped up to generously donate an additional $1,000 to the Centre.

Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $85,000 to local charities over the past 54 months!

Meanwhile, the August Burger of the Month in Red Deer is the ‘Give a Mile’ created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Becca Swanson.

It includes grilled marinated chicken breast, basil aioli, prosecco caramelized onions, asiago crisp, baby spinach, arugula, and beefsteak tomato on toasted brioche bun. Two dollars from every Burger sold goes directly to the Give a Mile Foundation.
