Red Deer RCMP seeking assistance to identify theft suspect

Family hoping to see return of stolen goods, as the goods were personal effects of a recently lost child

  • Feb. 21, 2017 8:00 p.m.

Red Deer RCMP are looking for public assistance to identify a suspect who broke into a parked vehicle in the area of 33 Street and 47 Avenue early Sunday morning and stole a suitcase containing the personal effects of a boy who had recently died.

RCMP responded to the report immediately after the theft occurred at 5:47 am on February 19.

It is believed that there were two suspects who entered the parked grey car on 33 Street; the suspects stole a large purple suitcase that contained personal effects and mementoes belonging to the family of a deceased 14 year old boy.

RCMP have searched the area for an abandoned suitcase and continue to investigate.

Police are asking residents in the area of 33 Street, Kin Kanyon and the nearby trail systems to check their yards and garbage cans for an abandoned suitcase or personal effects they believe may belong to the grieving family, and to keep an eye out for such items while walking the trails in that area.

RCMP further ask anyone who is in possession of this stolen purple suitcase to drop it or its contents off at the downtown Red Deer RCMP detachment at 4602 51 Avenue or call 403-343-5575 to make arrangements to have it returned.

If you have information about this incident, please contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com.
