Rural Crime Prevention Community Safety Training

The Canadian Municipal Network on Crime Prevention (CMNCP) is offering a virtual training session on crime prevention and community safety planning in the rural context.

The training is part of the “Building Capacity in Rural Crime Prevention” Project, funded by the Ministry of the Solicitor General of Alberta through the Civil Forfeiture Grant. The lead organizations for the project are the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association (ACCPA), REACH Edmonton Council for Safe Communities, Red Deer/Lacombe Rural Crime Watch, and CMNCP.

It will provide participants with the necessary understanding, knowledge and practice implications to prepare a rural community safety plan in collaboration with community partners that proactively addresses locally identified priority risks.

The workshop is catered towards representatives from communities that are interested in learning more about the development of community safety and well-being plans, both rural and urban including, employees of municipalities and townships and regional governments, Indigenous communities, elected officials, local agencies, organizations, and service providers from different sectors participating in the planning process of Crime Prevention (CP) and Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) plans.

Students interested in working with communities in crime prevention and community safety, municipal governance, social development, and community safety and well-being planning are also encouraged to sign up.

The 12-hour virtual training will be delivered through three, four-hour sessions onJan. 17, 24 and 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (MST).Deadline to register for the workshop is Jan. 12.
