Twenty-five Lakeside Social Workers – both current and past members – gathered on June 14 at the Ellis Bird Farm to celebrate 100 years as an active community organization.
President Brenda Loden and Vice-president Doreen Hainsworth welcomed special guests Don and Bev Montgomery who were representing the Lakeside Recreation Society and Councillor Brenda Knight from Lacombe County who brought congratulatory messages.
A lovely message from Myrna Pearman recalled many years of collaboration with LSW during her time as site manager at Ellis Bird Farm.
Good wishes were also received in letters from MP Blaine Calkins and former MLA Ron Orr.
Karen Waldo read two special poems in memory of past members. A display of memorabilia was highlighted by two beautiful autographed quilts created by members in the 1940s and prized by present members.
A PowerPoint slide presentation covering many LSW activities over the years was enjoyed and those in attendance had a chance to look through albums which stirred wonderful memories as well.
Recent members and old timers renewed acquaintances and several items of interest to LSW were raffled.
The afternoon concluded with high tea by Milly Oak Catering.
In recognition of 100 years, Lakeside Social Workers has contributed to the recent Community Halls Exhibit at the Lacombe Museum and a very successful garage sale fundraiser has been held.
Watch for them in the Lacombe Days Parade on July 15, and thank you for the ride, Lacombe
Vintage Machinery Club!
A commemorative sign has been erected at the Lakeside Hall as well.
