The City of Lacombe advises residents that in accordance to City bylaws and Council’s 2018-2021 Strategic Plan, Bylaw officers, together with contracted services and Lacombe Police Service, are focusing on unsightly properties.

Clean up of long-standing, problematic properties will begin starting Sept. 21, 2018. Impacted properties have been notified of the City’s intent to bring them into compliance with community standards.

“The vast majority of homes in Lacombe are well-maintained and show pride of ownership, and this shows why Lacombe is known as one of the top five places to live in Canada,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “However, there are a very small number of properties that need to be brought in line with community expectations.”

Accumulations of garbage and litter, animal feces, uncontrolled weeds, scrap metal and wood, derelict automobiles, household appliances, overgrown hedges or trees and unsafe sidewalks are among the factors officers consider to determine if a property is unsightly.

“We want to ensure that all residents are able to enjoy the use of their properties free from unsightly, malodorous properties and other nuisances,” said Chief Administrative Officer Matthew Goudy.

Residents failing to comply with an order to clean up their properties can be issued fines of $100 for a first offence, $250 for second offence, and $500 for each subsequent offence within a year.

The City can also arrange to have the property brought into compliance at the owner’s expense.
