Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) board of trustees heard during their June 16 meeting that the division’s Wisdom and Guidance Committee had received an award from Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBAA).
The award was a Special Recognition from PSBAA for the committee’s work in promoting awareness and recognition of the Calls to Action put forward by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In a ceremony held June 4, PSBAA presented the award to the committee, which was accepted by WCPS learning support coach Josephine Small and Elder Burt Bull.
Eco-Vision Award
Ecole Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School’s Eco-Vision program has been included in T4 Educations top-10 list for school environmental action.
Lacombe Composite, and the other nine schools on the list, are each working towards a $50,000 grant supplied by T4 Education.
According to the meeting highlights, an event was held June 10 to acknowledge the school making the top-10 list.
T4 Education is described as an organization that works to improve education around the world. The organization will select the top school, and grant winner, in October.
Blackfalds and Lacombe boundary review
The board of trustees received an update regarding the proposed Blackfalds and Lacombe grade and boundary reconfiguration, which followed phase 2 of public consultation.
Before making any final decisions the board plans to take time to study the contents of the update and plan further discussions before making a final decision on boundary and grade configurations.
High School graduations
Senior administration updated the board on their recent attendance at several graduation ceremonies throughout the division.
They noted that the 2022 ceremonies were held in person, the first time since the pandemic started.
Ceremonies in the last two years were held in “alternate manners” over the last two years.
