Beret Cutler (Vik) passed away at age 97 at the Red Deer Hospice after a month long illness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Cutler, in 1986 and only sibling Norman "Bud" Vik in 2015. Beret is survived by her four children, Brian (Charlene), Garth, Lynne Longshore (Dave) and Debbie Sissons (Cam), as well as eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren
Born in Kleppe, Norway, her family emigrated to Canada on September 5, 1926, and she grew up in Craigmyle (Hanna area) with her Uncle Edward's family as her mother was taken by polio within a year of their arrival to the homestead in the Bonanza (Peace River Area) of Northern Alberta.
Beret was schooled in Craigmyle and received her teaching education from Edmonton Normal School. She met "Charlie" while she was teaching elementary school in Lacombe with Charles's sister Betty.
Married in 1954, Beret played a pivotal role in the development of the family farm (both inside and outside the home) during its ongoing evolution and specialization in purebred beef cattle. Her efforts with the family and the farm created success stories on both sides of the scale throughout many good and tough times.
Beret retired to Lacombe in 2005 and was an active in many seniors' activities and including sports and spending time with friends at Kozy Korner.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Red Deer Hospice (Society) for their exceptional care during her stay.
Beret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be "Forever In Our Hearts" and "Always Our Inspiration".
A public "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Saturday August 7 at 3:00 PM at the Cutler Farm.
