April 2, 1946 - May 17, 2025

Claranne Olava Dixon (nee Halvorson) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Lacombe Hospital at 79 years of age after years of illness with mixed connective tissue disease and pulmonary fibrosis.

Claranne was born to Elenore (Bernice) B. Bakken and Willie (Bill) A. Halvorson on April 2, 1946 in Camrose, Alberta. She lived in Metiskow (Provost area), where her father grew up, until she was 2. The family then lived in Crooked Creek, Star School area, Islay and Rosebriar, all in Alberta, until finally landing in Wetaskiwin in 1955. She lived with her mom and brother in Wetaskiwin until high school graduation in 1963. Claranne moved to Edmonton to attend nursing school at University of Alberta in 1964 and graduated as a registered nurse in February 1967.

Claranne married James (Jim) Dixon in February 1967, having met him at University of Alberta in 1964 through her older brother Michael Halvorson. They welcomed James (Jimmy), Elizabeth, Stephanie and Veronica through '76. The family started in Edmonton before moving to Bentley in 1969 and Lacombe in 1972 where they have resided in 3 homes over the past 53 years.

Claranne was known for her sweet and kind demeanour, her love of family, her beautiful singing voice and piano playing, her impeccable style and grace, her love of dancing at a good party and of course her compassionate nursing care - always striving to learn new skills and better herself over her 35 year career.

Claranne is survived by her adoring husband of 58 years Jim, her 4 children: Jim Jr (Hannah), Elizabeth (Ben), Stephanie (James), and Veronica (Kenny), her 8 grandchildren: Charlie, Reed, Anna, Drew, Rhéa, Fergus, Gabriel and Shaemus. She is also survived by her brother Michael Halvorson (Jude), her sister in laws Elizabeth (Steve) Hrudey, Linda Dixon and Valerie Dixon as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Bill Halvorson in 1993, her stepfather Charlie Aldridge in 1995, her mother in law Rhoda Dixon in 1997, her mother Bernice Aldridge in 2002, her brother in law Kirk Dixon in 2022 and her brother in law Bruce Dixon in 2023.

Gratitude is offered to the many family and friends who have been so kind, generous and supportive during these last many weeks. Particular thanks to the compassionate staff and group of doctors on Unit B at Lacombe Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Izak Van Niekerk for his years of superb medical care. We are also especially grateful for the support of St Andrew's United Church noting the guidance and counsel of Reverend Barbara Lieurance and Reverend David Holmes.
