Dixie Louise Sisson (nee Miller)

June 22, 1928 – April 8, 2020
It is with great sadness that her family announces her passing on April 8, 2020 at the Lacombe Continuing Care Centre.
Dixie was born in the Jones Valley District near Joffre, AB. on June 22, 1928, the only child of George and Kathleen Miller. She rode her horse Babe to the Jones Valley School. In her late teens, Dixie attended rodeos with her uncle Oly. It was at one of these rodeos that she met her cowboy Samie Sisson. They were married October 25, 1948. They settled on a farm in the Clive area where they raised their 3 children, Irene, Douglas and Mary.
As horses were such a big part of our lives, our summers were spent either at a horse show or at a rodeo where Samie was an outrider. Dixie was always active with the Lacombe Light Horse Association and 4-H western Riders.
In the late 1960’s they sold the farm and moved to the Spruceville area where they resided until Samie retired and they bought a house and moved to Morningside in 1980. They spent their retirement years traveling and camping in Alberta and B.C. Dixie always had lots of flowers growing on her deck and was always busy with her crafts – cake decorating, knitting, quilling, beaded Christmas ornaments, sewing purses and making quilts.
In 2009, Dixie moved to The Lacombe Senior’s Lodge where she resided until moving to Lacombe Continuing Care in December 2019. Dixie was predeceased by her husband Samie in 1996, her father George in 1965 and her mother Kathleen in 2001. She leaves to mourn her 3 children, Irene, Douglas (Vicki) and Mary; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed, but at peace with her loved ones.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Senior’s Lodge and Lacombe Continuing Care for caring and kindness.
A Celebration of Dixie’s Life will be held at a later. Condolences may be made by visiting www.wilsonsfuneralchapel.ca.
