February 28, 1936 - November 26, 2021
In loving memory ~
Eleanor Patricia Maitland was born on February 28, 1936, to Curtis and Ernesta Maitland in St. Michael, Barbados. She was the eldest of three surviving children. Eleanor was brought up in the Seventh-day Adventist faith of her parents and was baptized at an early age, singing in the choir, and taking part in other church activities. She loved to read and started piano lessons as a child.
In May 1955, Eleanor sailed from the shores of Barbados to England to become a nurse and midwife. In 1963, Eleanor arrived in Canada, where she qualified as a Registered Nurse.
In October 1966, she met J.A.P. Jeffrey, and they were married on June 18th, 1967. To this union, two sons were born: Phillip Jr. and David.
Eleanor worked as a nurse at the Henderson General Hospital, Hamilton, and the Guelph General Hospital in Coronary and Critical Intensive Care. She loved her work, was keenly interested in her patients and was a very conscientious and hard worker. In 2007, Eleanor moved from Ontario to Lacombe, Alberta to be nearer to her family in retirement.
Eleanor enjoyed travelling to Adventist General Conference sessions, camp meetings, and women's retreats and was active in the church as a prayer warrior. She loved to give our spiritual books to those around her as her ministry of evangelism and was known to be a welcoming face at her local church.
While Eleanor's signature phrase, inscribed by her workmates on her retirement watch was "God is Good." That mantra took her through family tragedies and sustained her in her failing health. Eleanor entered her rest on Friday, November 26, 2021, and awaits the resurrection when Jesus will come to claim his own.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, J.A. P. Jeffrey, and her son, Phillip Jr. She leaves to celebrate her life her son David, his wife Mathy, their children Delorn, Brielle, and Briley and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.
Eleanor was a supporter of Burman University. The family would appreciate memorial gifts in lieu of flowers toward the Shaping the World new Library campaign.
Due to the current restrictions, a private Funeral Service was held at the College Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021.
