April 24, 1944 - January 24, 2025

In loving memory ~

Kathleen Diane Smith passed away peacefully on the evening of January 24, 2025. Born to Jean and Boyd Crooker on April 24, 1944, Diane grew up in the Lacombe/Ponoka area with her sister, Betty. After their father, Boyd's, passing, their mother, Jean, later married John Hutchison, who brought more brothers and sisters (and shenanigans!) to the family.

In her twenties, Diane met and married Reginald Smith and the two settled in Edmonton where they raised their beloved son Boyd. They remained in Edmonton for several years, later moving back to Lacombe to enjoy retirement, though many visits were made back to the city to spend time with Boyd and his wife, Lynn.

Diane was a strong supporter of her community, often giving of her time and volunteering for the library, museum, and historical society. She enjoyed her friends and had several groups with whom she spent time playing games, going out for lunch and visiting over coffee or a glass of wine. Diane also spent much of her time with her sister Betty having supper daily, going traveling, as well as attending functions and visiting people. Diane was equally content in her own company; she was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles...one could always count on Diane to have and share her knowledge on a multitude of topics, making for versatile and entertaining conversation.

Diane was predeceased by her parents, her husband Reg, siblings Tom (Marge) Hutchison, John Hutchison, sisters-in-law Dee Hutchison and Marge (Vic) Dufort, and brothers-in-law Bill Smith, Peter Pears and Frank Stotz. She is survived by her son Boyd (Lynn) Smith; sisters Betty Pears, Mary Stotz, Ann (Alden) Stevenson; brothers Bob (Heather) Hutchison and Bill (Eleanor) Hutchison; sister-in-law Esther Hutchison; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Diane was a quiet and lovely person who had an extremely kind and generous spirit. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Lacombe FCSS or the Canadian Cancer Society.
