Roland Alphonza Haynes was born on February 17, 1942, in Castries, St. Lucia. Roland was the eldest child of Ralph and Florence Haynes. At a young age, Roland, along with his parents and sister Miriam, immigrated to Canada where his father began studies at Canadian Union College in Lacombe.
Roland's creative talents found expression through his career as a professional jazz musician, groundbreaking multimedia innovations, and captivating photography shared on Instagram; roland.haynes. After a brief illness, Roland passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver on September 28, 2023.
Roland is survived by his devoted wife, Celia Tang, and his sisters, Miriam, Joy (Gilmore), and Jessie, his nephews, Jason and Michael, his niece, Charece, the extended Mitchell, Haynes, and Francis families. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Florence Haynes (nee Mitchell) and Dr. Ralph Haynes. A celebration of Roland's life was held in Vancouver on October 6, 2023, at the Oakridge Seventh-day Adventist Church.
