Happy New Year! 2020 sounds so impressive.

I wonder when the news show 2020 started in 1978 if they ever wondered about what would be happening in that year or if it was just a catchy title about seeing the news with excellent vision. My excitement for January 2020 is getting new glasses so I’m sure it’s going to be a great year.

My grandchildren were so excited about their presents but the three-year-old kind of stole the show when she opened a present and took off all her clothes to put on her Elsa dress. (Character from the movies Frozen.) She twirled around and declared my husband and myself the best grandparents ever. I could have gotten away without buying her another thing.

Registration for the Winter/Spring session of the Children’s Programs will be on Monday, January 6 at 10 a.m. You may come into the library or phone to register. Please don’t email or leave a message on that morning since we have no time to check for messages. Classes fill up extremely fast so arrive early to wait in line or keep hitting redial on your phone. The fee is $5 per family or a craft donation for the 18 week session.

The MCMPL Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, January 7 at 7 p.m. in the Read and Relax area of the library. We will be discussing the memoir; “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah. This is an interesting perspective on growing up in South Africa.

On Tuesday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in the North County Room of the LMC, the Friends of the Library will present the next Armchair Travel lecture. The presentation is titled “Ireland” and the presenter is Janet Hall. This is a free event and refreshments are provided.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 7 p.m. in Lacombe City Cinema, the library film series will be showing “Il Pleuvait des Oiseaux (And the Birds Rained Down)” directed by Louise Archambault. Three elderly hermits live deep in the Canadian woods are cut off from the rest of the world. Wildfires are raging and their quiet life is about to be shaken by the arrival of two women. This film is in French with English subtitles. It is rated PG and has an 88% rating on rottentomatoes.com.

We at the Mary C Moore Public Library would like to thank the community, the businesses and the citizens for their support in the past year. Please come and browse our shelves to find new authors and familiarize yourself with the programs and special events sponsored by the library. If you would like to see a different program or event please let us know by email or coming in to discuss your idea.

Our book this month is Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia. A dying billionaire sends one woman and a cast of dreamers on a citywide treasure hunt in this irresistible novel by the author of Bellweather Rhapsody. Sounds like fun. I will have to try to read it after the forty other books on my list.

Have a great week.
