The children are back to school and I’m back to regular fall programs.

Registration was wild and crazy but went well. Thanks to the parents who braved the line-up or redialed their phones till their thumbs hurt, to enroll their children. One good thing about the programs starting is that I will be receiving the little gems of wisdom from the children for the column. Unfortunately though, I have caused some consternation by being out of the program room. One little girl asked her mother, as I was checking out their books, “What is Miss Mary doing out here? She belongs in her room!”

Please join us for the first film of the Fall Library series on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. in the Lacombe City Cinemas. We will be screening “The Farewell” directed by Lulu Wang. This movie is rated PG and has a 99 per cent rating on rottentomatoes.com. Chinese born, U.S. raised Billi reluctantly returns to China, only to find out that although the whole family knows their beloved grandmother is dying, they have decided not to tell her the truth. Instead they plan an expedited wedding to give her joy before her death. This film is based on an actual lie. Tickets are $9 in advance in the library and $10 at the door pending availability. (Cash only)

On Friday, September 20 from 2-4 p.m. in the County Room of the LMC please come and celebrate with Sylvia Gillespie on the occasion of her 90th birthday. There will be refreshments and excellent company. I love a birthday party!

Armchair Travel is beginning again! On Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m. please come and enjoy a presentation given by Irene Sisson titled “WWI and WWII Sites”. This is a free event and refreshments are provided.

Come and play Pokemon TCG: trade cards and meet new people! This club is for all ages and meets in the Servus Room of the LMC on Tuesdays from 5-7:45 p.m. This is free to attend but you must bring your own cards.

Our novel this week is “Queenie Malone’s Paradise Hotel” by Ruth Hogan. Tilly was a bright out-going little girl who liked playing with ghosts and matches. Her childhood was shattered however, when her father disappears and her mother sends her away to school. Now an adult, Tildy, comes back home after her mother’s death to unravel the mystery of her exile so long ago.

Have a great week.
