So not having any children’s classes has cut deeply into my store of amusing stories. I sorry, but adults are just not that funny. After a week out of the children’s room, I am more than ready to start the children’s classes again. Thanks to all the people who registered for the programs and thanks for your patience in the line-up and on the phone. My phone ear only stayed red for about an hour after the rush. I can tell you that the children who come into the library when I don’t have classes are very confused from seeing me in the main library instead of my room.
The Armchair Travel presentation “Ireland” has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the County Room of the LMC. The presenter is Janet Hall. This is a free event and refreshments will be provided.
On Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the County Room of the LMC the Local History Lecture is titled “Deep Roots Farm”, presented by Marc Visscher. This is also a free event with the inevitable refreshments provided.
The Friends of the Library would like to thank all the presenters and all the people who gave lectures and attended the Armchair Travel and Local History programs over the last 12 years. These programs will not be continuing after April of this year. If you have a suggestion for a new program please speak to a member of the Friends of the Library or the Library Staff.
On the subject of the Friends of the Library: this is an organization dedicated to fund raising support for the library. They are always looking for new members who can commit to one meeting a month and help with fund raising events. If you would like to get involved you can call the library or come to a meeting. The Friends meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the library.
On Saturday, January 25 from 10-11am in the Children’s Program Room we will be celebrating Family Literacy Day. “Reading, Rats and Refreshments” is our theme. It is the year of the Rat so we will be reading stories of these much maligned furry animals and their friends. There is no registration for this event. It is open to families of all ages.
The MCMPL Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Read and Relax area of the library to discuss the novel “Circe” by Madeline Miller. Everyone is welcome.
The library is trying to start a Parent/Child Book Club, once a month, for parents and children ages 8-12. We are hoping that this club can have parents and children sharing their love of reading. Please call or come into the library if you are interested in participating.
Our novel this week is “Just Watch Me” by Jeff Lindsay. This is a series debut by the author of the “Dexter” series. This novel introduces, Riley Wolfe an uncatchable master thief who, yes, steals for money but even more for the challenge. His challenge in this book is to steal the Crown Jewels of Iran. The critics call it a mesmerizing heist novel for which fans of Jeff Lindsay having been waiting.
