Recently my family experienced the passing of my mom, Deloris Badger.
Mom spent the last 6 months of her life as a resident of Unit 2 of the Lacombe Continuing Care Centre. During that time Dad spent a lot of his time there, at Mom’s side. Dad called me each evening to give me an update on Mom and often told stories of the amazing care she was receiving.
Nearly as often, he emphasized how good the staff was to him as well. While I had shared interactions and niceties with the Unit 2 staff when I was in town, it truly wasn’t until this past week that I gained a whole new level of respect and appreciation of their dedicated work and kindness. In Mom’s final hours, the staff placed a cart of sundries and supplies right outside her door, ensuring we knew that it was for us to use as we needed; also letting us know if there was anything else we needed, we just had to ask.
I live in a larger city and I can assure you that you would never see that level of genuine care and compassion in an urban hospital. My dad, my brother, and I were overwhelmed with their kindness at a time when we needed it most. There are simply no words great enough to express how much we appreciated all they did.
Another special mention to the staff at MBK Engraving Plus for their excellent customer service. They went above and beyond to get our job done quickly and to our complete satisfaction (and then some).
While nothing about these past few weeks have been easy. From the bottom of our hearts…thank you all.
