Despite a valiant effort, the Blackfalds Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision to the Brooks Bandits Wednesday at the Eagle Builders Centre.

The Bandits opened the scoring early into the first period after Brendan Poshak beat Jackson Glassford, who made 33 saves in a losing cause.

The Bulldogs tied the game at one, just four minutes into the second frame when Brett Meerman notched his 15th of the season.

Blackfalds took its first lead of the night after Tye Carriere sent a rocket past Maxwell Beckford, who turned away 15 shots for the victory. T.J. Hughes and Noah Hackett both scored power play goals for Brooks before the period was done as the Bandits took a 3-2 advantage into the third period.

The Bulldogs tied the game at three in the third period when Carter Yarish banked home his seventh of the campaign.

Just 18 seconds later, Ryan McAllister beat Jackson Glassford, giving the Bandits a 4-3 edge. McAllister’s goal proved to be enough as the Bandits skated out of Blackfalds with two points.

With the loss, the Bulldogs slipped to 15-24-1 on the season, which still has them in sixth in the AJHL South. Blackfalds will look to rebound Friday night on home ice when they welcome the Spruce Grove Saints to the Eagle Builders Centre for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The Bulldogs will conclude their weekend Saturday when the Fort McMurray Oil Barons make a stop in Blackfalds.
