Lacombe Minor Football is hoping to round up a few more players for their flag football teams before their 2022/2022 season kicks off.
The association offers flag football, tackle football and camps for kids ages eight to 15 in the Lacombe area. Lacombe is one of the 12 flag football teams in the youth leagues for Albert.
Ashley McFadden, vice president of Lacombe minor football said the sport is starting to pick up traction.
“We haven’t run flag season in a long time because of COVID but we are one of the few teams in Alberta and there is a lot of potential,” said McfAdden.
She added that a lot of players aged out of their divisions during the last two years in both the flag and tackle teams leading to a shortage in players, especially in atom.
In past seasons they have had around 70 players sign up for flag football. This year they only have 25 and McFadden is hoping to sway a few potential players before the season starts.
On May 1 they will be hosting a field event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. McFadden said interested players can come to try out the sport, and past players are invited to come to reconnect with past teammates.
A Bantam spring camp is also open for registration.
The peewee 2022 season dryland conditioning camp will begin in mid-August and the fall season will follow camp. For the 2022 atom season, the equipment handout and training camp will be held end of August and fall season practice will follow camp. The association said that official dates will be determined when further schedules are released.
All practices in every division will be held at MEGlobal Football Field in Lacombe and all games are held on Saturdays in Lacombe or central Alberta.
Registration for the 2022/2023 season is currently open. It can be found along with camp registration information at lacombeminorfootball.com.
