Lacombe Seniors Bonspiel returns to the Curling Centre

Several divisions allow for anyone over 50 years old to participate

Seniors are rocking, Not in chairs – but on the ice.

The Lacombe Seniors Bonspiel is coming to the curling rink from Nov. 12 – 16. Each year this bonspiel has a waiting list of teams wishing to enter and enjoy a wonderful week of great camaraderie, food, curling and fun.

Its distinct format of divisions — mixed, at least one member must be of the opposite gender; stick, specially designed stick must be used by at least 2 players; and a change this year to two masters groups, minimum aggregate age of 265 — allows anyone who is 50 years or older to participate.

Throughout the week, teams earn cash for each win and on Friday — every team gets a payout based on their placing.

A shoot-out is held after the first game, and cash prizes are awarded. Points for the team shoot-out will also be used in the event of a tie over the week.

Support from local businesses who sponsor each division, as well as banquet sponsors and door prize donors ensure the success of the bonspiel.

Combine this with daily goodies, and a fabulous banquet, and it is easy to understand why teams return annually.

Come and enjoy the curling and cheer for good (and not so great) shots!
