The Medicine Lodge ski hill still needs a few inches of snow before they can open the runs for their 60th ski season.

The ski hill, located just outside of Bentley last reported a base of snow of about two inches, they need another six or seven inches before they can open but the staff is already preparing the runs and monitoring the base.

They offer 11 runs that’ll keep riders of all skill levels busy; a t-bar and a beginners lift. The staff, which is made up entirely of volunteers grooms the runs, runs the rental shop, patrols the runs, sells tickets and even trim the trees in the off season.

Michael Roseboom, with the Medicine Lodge ski hillsaid that last year they were able to open for Family Day he’s hoping this year will be similar, but with weather and COVID it’s hard to say for sure.

“Usually we are open from the boxing day or the end of December until March.”

Once open for the season, the hill is open three days a week, four on long weekends. The hill’s schedule is also based on Wolf Creek School Division school calendar, which means when the kids have a break from school, the hill is open.

Roseboom said that the community has always been supportive even through the tricky COVID times, and that they’ve never had a time where they couldn’t cover operating costs. The hill is not for profit, and any money left over from their yearly operating costs goes into a fund that can be used for other years.

Tickets and season pass information can be found at medicinelodgeskihill.com and the Medicine Lodge ski hill Facebook will be updated as soon as the hill is ready for riders.
