The Stettler Bantam Cougars are the new league champs, after narrowly defeating the Lacombe Raiders in a closely contested game.
Jumping into an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter, by the end of the half Lacombe had clawed their way back into the game with a six-point touchdown, though they failed to score on the conversion.
Lacombe continued to put the pressure on in the second half, with another touchdown and a conversion.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Cougars were still playing from behind. However, a pair of touchdowns shot them back into the driver’s seat.
Lacombe succeeded in running in one last touchdown, but being unable to succeed on the conversion point, the effort was for naught. The final score was 20-19 for the hometown Stettler Cougars.
